Microsoft Game Studios Loses Another Senior Developer

Head of Xbox, Phil Spencer seems to have a problem on his hands as another experienced developer has left Microsoft Game Studios. Rare’s Creative Director for Everwild, Simon Woodroffe leaves the British studio after eight years at the company.

In a statement to VGC Craig Duncan, the head of Rare thanked Woodroffe for his work and affirmed that Everwild’s development will continue without him.

“We thank Simon for all his hard work on Everwild and wish him the very best of luck for the future,” Duncan said. “The Everwild team are in good hands and passionate about building a game that will give players unforgettable experiences in a natural and magical world.”

Everwild is a new IP in development at Rare, there is not much to be known about the upcoming game as the studio affirms that they have still not decided on key elements of the gameplay. The project is being produced by Lousie O’Connor, with James Blackman as a Lead Designer and Ryan Stevenson as the Studio Art Director.

“The Everwild team are in good hands and passionate about building a game that will give players unforgettable experiences in a natural and magical world.” Adds Duncan.

343 Industries, part of the Xbox Game Studios is also facing problems as Chris Lee officially resigned the role of being the Game Director for Halo Infinite. His departure follows Tim Longo’s resignation as the original Creative Director for the project. Longo, unlike Lee, quit both the project and the company.

Is uncertain what are the reason behind some experienced developers are leaving the projects that are set to be the opening door for Xbox’s next-generation of gaming. It’s important to mention that Xbox’s developers need to work the hardest in the industry, needing to design a game that runs perfectly on Xbox One, Xbox One X, Xbox Series X|S, and in some cases in PC as well.

Before the official announcement of the ZeniMax Media acquisition, an id Software developer expressed his concern for Xbox Series S as it will add more work and complications to an already challenging task.
