Maxime Béland Returns to Ubisoft

Former Creative Director of Splinter Cell Maxime Béland is reportedly decided to leave Epic Games for a Ubisoft return.

Maxime Béland had joined Epic Games was shortly worked on Fortnite. Ubisoft is planing a restructure of the editorial team, Maxime Béland, a man with over two decades of experience at Ubisoft was appointed to be the new Vice-President of the editorial team.

Ubisoft has reached VGC and revealed their plans for the upcoming games and IPS under a new editorial direction. Last couple of years have been disappointing for Ubisoft, a revamp in their editorial team is taking place right now. The editorial team leads Ubisoft’s creative direction and is integrated by 100 designers and producers.

“We are reinforcing our editorial team to be more agile and better accompany our development teams around the world as they create the best gaming experiences for players”

One of the objectives set for the new editorial team is to make Ubisoft’s line-up “more varied”

VGC also reports that Ubisoft’s Editorial Team will still be work under the leadership of Serge Hascoet, Vice Presidents like Maxime Béland will be given more autonomy. Seven Vice Presidents will be assigned to a different franchise, to lead with independent decisions the future directions.

Ubisoft’s vision is that spreading editorial’s responsibilities would significantly make Ubisoft’s games different from each other.

One anonymous source told VGC: “In the previous system that editorial had, there were often the ideas of just one or two people getting put into every game. That’s why you tended to see such similarity, because it’s the same taste and opinion being replicated.”

The vice presidents will be made up of existing personnel such as editorial VP Tommy Francois, while creative directors from Canada will also be integrated such as Child of Light’s Patrick Plourde and Splinter Cell’s Maxime Béland, who has returned following a year at Epic Games especially for the role.
