Konami Loses Silent Hill Domain

Silent Hill is one of the most beloved of Konami’s franchises, but to the dismay of fans the publisher doesn’t seem too keen on releasing a new one anytime soon. The beloved horror franchise has been lying dormant for years but thus far Konami has revealed no new plans to move forward with another game in the series. This apparent apathy toward Silent Hill seems to have gone up a level as Konami let the domain expire over the weekend.

As is usually the case with these things, once Konami forgot to renew the domain their negligence was taken advantage of as someone swooped in and purchased the domain right under their noses. As of the time of writing, the silenthill.com domain currently shows a tweet from Masahiro Ito that says, “I wish I hadn’t designed fxxkin Pyramid Head.”

The tweet from Ito was from a few days ago, though he didn’t state the reason for it. There is something poetic about the new owner using this particular tweet, however. It is speculated that Konami isn’t making another Silent Hill precisely because of Pyramid Head’s popularity. The character was only meant to appear in one game, but it seems like Konami insists wanting to use him in every game. Ito also tweeted previously that Konami using Pyramid Head in so many titles cheapens the character. Ito has since deleted the tweet.

This is not the first time that Konami has lost the Silent Hill domain. They also failed to renew the license in 2019, but were able to reacquire it before someone else did. As of right now, it is unclear if Konami plans to get the domain back, or how much it would have to pay to do so. One thing is clear though, Silent Hill as a franchise is having a rough time right now.
