Kingdoms of Amalur Remaster For Summer 2020

A remastered version of 38 Studio’s RPG, Kingdoms of Amalurhas appeared on the Microsoft Store, despite a lack of an official announcement. The remaster is titled Kingdoms of Amalur: Re-Reckoning. It was the only game released by 38 Studio before they filed for bankruptcy.

The rights of the remaster was purchased by THQ Nordic in September 2018. However, the game’s publishing rights still belonged to EA then. The title was intended to become a series, including an MMORPG set in the same universe before the company filed for bankruptcy. The game itself originally received positive reviews.

The original Kingdoms of Amalur featured 5 distinct regions, 4 playable races, and 3 classes. The game is similar to other RPGs such as Skyrim and Mass Effect in that it features a large open-world with a main quest-line and several side quests. Additionally, the game features a similar progression system, based on improving skills that correspond with the player’s play style and class.

This will mark the second time in recent history that Microsoft has spoiled the announcement for a game by putting the titles on its stores. The first instance of this was the remastered Mafia Trilogy, which was put on the Microsoft Store before announcement.

“Yes, it’s true and accurate,” a THQ Nordic spokesperson responded. “The news was not supposed to go out yet, which can be summarised as ‘oopsy daisy’ on our end. We hope people are still looking forward to playing Kingdoms of Amalur Re-Reckoning in summer.”

In addition to remaster rights, THQ Nordic also has the rights to the unreleased MMORPG that 38 studio was working on before shutting down.

Though there is yet to be an official release date, players can look forward to the game’s release in the summer of this year.
