Square Enix has just announced that Kingdom Hearts Dark Road has been delayed due to COVID-19, the company promises more information in June. In an official statement, the company explains that due to “current conditions” the mobile spin-off has been delayed.

Due to current conditions, development for KINGDOM HEARTS DARK ROAD has been delayed. We apologize for the late update, as we were trying to find some means of making a Spring release. Another announcement will be coming in early June, so please stay tuned.

Kingdom Hearts Dark Road was originally announced in January under the code name Project Xenahort, players will take a look at Xenahort’s story, the game’s main antagonist. Square Enix has released some screenshots that confirms the fast paced action of the game, players will need to react quick to the actions required on screen. Interestingly, the game features a card-based battle system, players will choose from different type of cards.

When Kingdom Hearts Dark Road does land, you’ll be able to access it via the Union χ app, but you don’t need to play Union χ in order to enjoy Dark Road. We’ll have to wait until June for more details regarding the game’s release date. There’s a chance we’ll also learn more about the systems and narrative of Dark Road at that time. Stay tuned for more info on Kingdom Hearts Dark Road. In the meantime, if you’re interested, you should probably start working your way through the KH back catalog. There’s a lot to catch up on.
