Kingdom Hearts 3 Epilogue Video and Secret Video Coming Post-Launch

After 13 years of waiting Kingdom Hearts 3 is finally around the corner, and Square Enix is making some smart moves in order to keep dataminers and spoilers away, as it was announced via Twitter the schedule of updates check the schedule below:

  • On Jan. 29, version 1.01 of Kingdom Hearts 3 will be released. A new Memory Archive option will be added to the game which will let players watch a synopsis of the Kingdom Hearts saga.
  • On Jan. 30, Square Enix will release the epilogue video. Players will need to have completed Kingdom Hearts 3 and seen the main ending to watch the epilogue.
  • On Jan. 31, Square Enix will release the “secret movie.” Players will need to have completed the game and fulfilled certain criteria during their playthrough to watch this video. Square Enix didn’t specify what criteria players need to meet to see the secret movie, other than to imply that it’s somewhat based on difficulty level.

Traditionally, these epilogues and secret videos have shed more light on events that happened concurrently with other storylines, or teased future characters. Since this is the conclusion of the trilogy, it’s hard to say what it might reveal–but the story of Kingdom Hearts has plenty of room for more sequels, even if this trilogy comes to a proper conclusion.

The epilogue and secret movies have come up before, when the game leaked and spoilers began circulating online. At the time, director Tetsuya Nomura specifically asked fans not to spoil the two movies, since they represent the game’s “biggest spoilers.” His statement said because they want to save the surprise, these two movies wouldn’t be available before release. Now we know for certain that he was referring to these post-launch patches.

Kingdom Hearts 3 is coming for Xbox One and PS4 on January 29th.
