Death Stranding

Keanu Reeves Was an Option to Play as Cliff, but Kojima Insisted on Mads

I don’t know how many hours a day Keanu tends to play games – if he plays at all – but we are pretty sure that he’s interested in starring within some of the most anticipated games of the current generation. Cyberpunk 2077 has succeeded in taking him into Night City, but it seems the Hollywood star has been an option for other video game titles too, including Death Stranding.

During the panel at San Diego Comic Con 2019, Hideo Kojima and Nicolas Winding Refn sat to talk about video games, movies their relationship and most importantly, Death Stranding. While Hideo Kojima released new details on Heartman, that character in DS played by Refn, he also revealed some information on options that he had for casting. For the character of Cliff, specifically, Kojima confirmed that he was recommended Keanu Reeves but he wanted Madds Mikkelsen to play the role.

Regarding the huge project of Hideo Kojima which is almost as big as CDPR’s Cyberpunk 2077, Keanu Reeves would probably accept to play as Cliff if he was asked. However, Mikkelsen himself is a great option for playing Cliff. If I were the director, I would choose Keanu Reeves to play Higgs instead of Cliff. However, our Breathtaking star will be making an appearance in Cyberpunk 2077 at the middle next year’s April, while Madds will come with Death Stranding on November 8 this year.
