Half-Life: Alyx – New Gameplay Shown on YouTube

On Thursday, YouTube channel Adam Savage’s Tested shared a video in which they spent an entire day playing Half-Life: Alyx, Valve’s highly-anticipated virtual reality first-person shooter.

Trying out the game using eight different virtual reality devices including the Oculus Quest, Oculus Rift S, HTC Vive Cosmos, and the Valve Index, Tested offered fans a glimpse of Half-Life: Alyx‘s appearance and gameplay. Using different motion controllers, the Tested team showed viewers how the game’s mechanics work with each device and their pros and cons.

The most interesting thing about Tested’s video, however, is that it let gamers see more of Half-Life: Alyx than they have before. A report from Eurogamer explains that the video avoids spoiling any plot details and advanced mechanics, but that it does fans a good idea of what they can expect from some of the motion-control based interactions they will use in the game. The footage is recorded in an off-screen manner, and taken from around three hours of actual gameplay.

An enterprising YouTuber, zck2020, compiled all the gameplay footage from Tested into one eleven-minute long video. Curious fans will find themselves captivated by this little treat, even though it’s a tad bit blurry and sometimes shown on a small screen.

Half-Life: Alyx was revealed to the world this November, and has been described by Valve as its flagship VR game, and takes place before Half-Life 2. In the game, players control Alyx Vance as she and her father fight against the occupying alien Combine. Scheduled for release in March 2020, the was developed using the Source 2 engine, and supports all PC-compatible VR headsets.
