God of War ‘Trolls, Exploration and More’ Gameplay

Sony released today a new gameplay video for their upcoming most anticipated game, God of War, featuring five minutes of new gameplay and showcasing a new enemy for the game, as well as some of the exploration elements in the game.

Check out the gameplay video of God of War, featuring some gameplay footage:

“The video kicks off with a battle against a troll, which looks and behaves differently than the trolls we’ve see in other clips.

One of the Sony reps stated:

“Each one [of the trolls] is different. Each has a completely different backstory. As with Norse mythology, everything has a little bit of a story, a little bit of a narrative to it. Each of these guys, they’re going to look a little different, they’re going to fight a little different. When you go up against them you might want to think a little differently. […] Part of their backstory is that they’ve been betrayed by the Gods, and that they’ve got all these different cities and villages.”

The footage also provides a look at the quieter, more exploratory side of God of War. We see Kratos and Atreus searching through caves, collecting loot, solving simple puzzles, and scaling a cliff together. The video ends on an intriguing note, as Kratos desperately tries to locate Atreus in a misty forest. God of War certainly looks impressive and it seems it will be nicely varied, as well.

For those who haven’t been keeping up, here’s Sony’s synopsis for the new God of War:

His vengeance against the Gods of Olympus years behind him, Kratos now lives as a man in the realm of Norse Gods and monsters. It is in this harsh, unforgiving world that he must fight to survive…And teach his son to do the same. This startling reimagining of God of War deconstructs the core elements that defined the series—satisfying combat breathtaking scale and a powerful narrative — and fuses them anew.

About God of War:

God of War for PS4 was originally announced at E3 2016. The game has been in development for a while now. It is the first God of War game to ditch the fixed camera perspective in favor of a more focused third person camera. Kratos has also picked up a new weapon in the form of an axe that he can throw to attack enemies from a distance as well. It remains to be seen if the Blades of Chaos will make a return in this reboot.

God of War will be releasing for PS4 on April 20.”
