Ghostwire: Tokyo Gets Extended Gameplay Preview

It was announced yesterday, after multiple delays, that Ghostwire: Tokyo will be released on March 25, 2022. Alongside that announcement was the reveal that the new game from Tango Gameworks would be getting a PlayStation Showcase, finally giving a deeper look at the bizarre game.

Drawing from Japanese folklore and urban legends, using popular onrya like Kuchisake-onna, the slit-mouthed woman, the story follows a man who is possessed by a spirit after awakening in a Tokyo where almost all of the population has vanished and monsters roam the city.

For the first time, players are given a good look at the open-world Tokyo that they will get to explore, including abilities that allow for easy rooftop exploration. The main character will be given tools to help him fight, such as a bow and arrow but the spirit possessing him grants him powerful magical abilities that he can use to fight the monsters, each bearing hand gestures that go along with them.

Similar to most games there will also be a leveling system in place to power up abilities. Each of these abilities will aid in certain playstyles, allowing the player to decide what to upgrade based on how they choose to fight their enemies.

The gameplay footage showcased was relatively short, especially when compared to the 30-minute look that PlayStation gave to the upcoming Gran Turismo 7 yesterday. That being said, this is the best look we have gotten at the game thus far, finally putting the elements together in a more meaningful way.

It was also announced that a Deluxe Edition will be available for Ghostwire: Tokyo that will give 3-day early access to players that purchase it, along with additional digital content. Ghostwire: Tokyo is the second of two games that is releasing exclusively on PlayStation as part of a deal made before Microsoft purchased the parent company of Tango Gameworks, Zenimax. It will be available for PlayStation 5 and Windows PC.
