Gearbox Claims Borderlands 4 PC Frame Rates Have Improved By 20 Percent

Gearbox Entertainment has released a new post on Steam highlighting improvements made to Borderlands 4. Specifically, the developer pointed to performance gains, claiming a roughly 20 percent increase in average FPS. The studio shared several charts comparing frame rates across different setups between the launch version of Borderlands 4 and version 1.5, demonstrating the extent of the improvements. On minimum specs with visuals upscaled to 1080p, the game ran at 53.1 FPS at launch, compared to 67.02 FPS in version 1.5. Recommended PC specs with visuals upscaled to 1440p improved from 64.02 FPS at launch to 75.72 FPS. High-end hardware, such as a PC with an Nvidia GeForce RTX 4080, saw performance increase from 86.87 FPS at launch to 107.07 FPS. At native resolutions, minimum specs improved from 37.32 FPS at launch to 52.79 FPS in version 1.5. Recommended specs increased from 44.89 FPS to 56.54 FPS, while a PC equipped with an RTX 4080 improved from 54.96 FPS to 78.43 FPS.

“The roughly 20% increase in average FPS comes from combined efforts focusing on GPU, CPU, and general efficiency, with the Optimization Team identifying specific refinements to improve performance without being too noticeable in terms of visual fidelity,” said the developer. “In addition to improving average FPS, we reduced stutters, improving the 1% and 0.1% lows in frame rate,” it continued. “These are the bottom 1% and 0.1% of frames generated during our benchmark test and are indicators of frame stability. The closer these numbers are to the average FPS, the smoother and more responsive the game will feel, reducing stutters and hitches.” Borderlands 4 is available now for PlayStation 5, Xbox Series, and PC via Steam and Epic Games Store.  The Nintendo Switch 2 version was previously scheduled to launch on October 2, 2025.
