Final Fantasy VII Remake Hinted At Being Cross-Gen

The news has been swarming regarding the upcoming release of Final Fantasy VII Remake. As one of the stars of this year’s E3, fans got a good look at what to expect in the incredibly anticipated title, as well as a very welcome release date for the game which is slated for March of next year.

However, Game Informer spoke with Square Enix President and CEO Yosuke Matsuda on whether or not we could see any (or all) parts of the supposed multi-part release on next-gen consoles. While the announced release date is expected to be only for the first part of the remake, it’s unknown how long we’ll have to wait in order to get our hands on the later sections of the game – and it very well could launch after next-gen consoles hit the market.

Matsuda expresses, “I believe that our teams have made it so that the game will support both the next generation and the current generation of consoles,” and that “it is being developed so that it is going to be playable on both(…)including the next-generation of consoles.”

While this seems like pretty heavy confirmation that the entirety of the game will indeed be a cross-gen release, it may be Matsuda just reiterating the fact that next-gen consoles have (more or less) been confirmed to be backward compatible. Regardless, if a fan of the series is looking to play the game on next-gen consoles, it seems pretty likely at this point.

Final Fantasy VII Remake is set to release its first episode on March 3, 2020 for the PS4.
