Half-Life 2

Fan Made Half-Life 2 Remaster Has Valve’s OK – Rumor

People have been clamoring for news that Half-Life 3 would finally become a thing. While not quite Half-Life 3, gamers saw a small glimmer of light at the end of this tunnel with the release of Half-Life: Alyx which was developed by Valve.

In recent years Valve has turned to developing their PC marketplace as well as new techs such as the short-lived Steam Machine and their upcoming Handheld the Steam Deck. This has lead many franchises the company had a hand in to lay dormant over the years. While Not quite Half-Life 3, there is something that should at least get fans of the series excited.

According to spotting on Steam DB, a new listing from the team of fans behind the Half-Life 2 Updates lists that they are working on a Half-Life 2: Remastered Collection. According to this, it will include the game and all its episodes, though how they will be enhanced at this point is unclear.

What’s more, the remaster is being developed with the content of Valve. This is similar to Black Mesa, a fan-made reimagining of the original Half-Life, that was allowed to be released and sold on Valve’s Steam marketplace. In a recent interview with IGN, Valve’s Gabe Newell discussed the openness of PC as its ‘superpower’ and its things like this that showcase that he stands by that.

Half-Life 2: Update was released 6 years ago and was a patch to improve certain aspects of the game that had become dated. This mostly included improvements to the lighting as well as fixing several bugs within the game. Lighting has improved dramatically since that update was released, with the now commonplace raytracing effects so it will be interesting to see if these features are implemented into this Remaster.
