Epic Games Store Adds Modding Support

Epic Games Store is now officially allowing the mod support feature in the digital distribution platform, the feature is currently into beta testing with the support of the MechWarrior 5: Mercenaries’ community. Epic Games has not revealed which other games will join next in the beta program, but according to Epic Games Store’s public roadmap more games will be confirmed soon.

With this release, discovering and installing MW5 Mods made by the amazing modding community will be easier than ever, integrated directly into the existing Epic Games Launcher.

Whether you are looking to modify existing mechanics and content or build entirely new systems and creations, the MechWarrior 5: Mercenaries Mod Editor is here to help make your imagination a reality.

In the case of MechWarrior 5: Mercenaries, players will have access to all ‘Blueprints’ and ‘Content Assets’ used to make the game, the Mod Editor is not just a basic toolset. Piranha Games’ excluded the source code and code modification. Players are now able to download a modding kit via the store.

Mod support for Epic Games Store was confirmed in 2019, the announcement also suggested that the huge feature would take ” a long time to build”. 2020 was the scheduled time for the inauguration of the key feature for PC players.

MechWarrior 5: Mercenaries is a BattleTech mecha game set in 3015 during the final decade of the Third Succession War, casting the player as a rookie mercenary MechWarrior rising from the ashes of a demolished mercenary unit. They are able to accept contracts from the various factions available in this time period. The campaign goes all the way up to 3049, just before the Clan Invasion.
