EA Acquires Glu Mobile For $2.1 Billion

Electronic Arts announced today the acquisition of Glu Mobile, a large publisher of mobile games.

Electronic Arts will acquire Glu Mobile for $2.1 billion in enterprise value. The acquisition will significantly boost the publisher operations in the growing mobile market in which, Glu has seen a combined $1.32 billion in earnings over the last twelve months.

“Our acquisition of Glu combines amazing teams and deeply-engaging products to create a mobile games leader with proven expertise across many fast-growing genres,” said Andrew Wilson, CEO of Electronic Arts. “Mobile continues to grow as the biggest gaming platform in the world, and with the addition of Glu’s games and talent, we’re doubling the size of our mobile business. With a deep IP portfolio and an expanding global audience, we’ll deliver more exciting experiences for our players and drive further growth for Electronic Arts.”

Glu Mobile is a team of over five hundred mobile game developers now at the disposition of Electronic Arts. Glu’s creative leaders are established and well-known to Electronic Arts, with a similar focus on creating highly successful mobile games with longevity.

Glu Mobile will be integrated into Electronic Arts immediately and both companies will work together to produce a leading mobile product portfolio across fast-growing genres. As reported on the official statement, Electronic Arts’ currently has over 430 million players across platforms, including more than 100 million monthly active players in mobile. The goal is to expand franchises and genres to new audiences and demographics all over the world.
