E3 2018 – Resident Evil 2 remake debut trailer
Capcom revealed the first look at its remake of Resident Evil 2 today during Sony’s PlayStation E3 2018 press conference, revealing a massive overhaul of the classic survival horror game.
Resident Evil 2 was released on the original PlayStation back in January 1998. Hideki Kamiya was the game’s director, with Shinji Mikami sliding over into a producer role. It eventually made its way to PC, Nintendo 64, Dreamcast, and GameCube.
The video showed Leon Kennedy in his classic blue Raccoon City Police Department uniform, before ending with the release date and confirmation that pre-orders are now open.
As previously revealed, the Resident Evil 2 remake project is being led by Yoshiaki Hirabayashi, who served as the producer of the Resident Evil HD Remaster that was released in January 2015, and is part of Capcom R&D Division 1.
The project was initially announced in 2015, when Capcom said the development effort was in the very early stages of development. Just over three years later and it’s reaching completion.
Capcom’s last Resident Evil HD Remaster launched in January 20 on PS4, Xbox One, and PC. It broke sales records for the company, quickly becoming the fastest selling digital title in its history across Europe and North America

The remake of Resident Evil 2 will trade the fixed cameras of the original game for a third-person over-the-shoulder view, similar to more recent Resident Evil games — with the exception of Resident Evil 7, which introduced a first-person view. Players will still be able to play as both Claire Redfield and Leon Kennedy as they explore a zombie-infested Raccoon City.
The Resident Evil 2 remake was announced in 2015 by producer Yoshiaki Hirabayashi. Little was known about the project at the time, but it was believed to be a major undertaking, a la the Resident Evil remake for the GameCube (which has since come to a wide variety of platforms), as opposed to a remaster on par with 2016’s Resident Evil 0 Remaster.
