Native Dualshock 4 Support Coming to Steam

Native Dualshock 4 Support Coming to Steam

Today at Steam Dev Days, Valve engineer Jeff Bellinghausen announced native support for Sony’s Dualshock 4 controller would be coming to Steam. Also said that similar support is coming to other controllers.

Check this Sony video down below:

“Believe it or not, when you use the PS4 Controller through the Steam API, it’s exactly the same as a Steam Controller,” he said. “You make the exact same API calls, you only get actions, not inputs, and the Steam API takes care of everything.”

Bellinghausen continued, saying this decision will benefit players already using a Dualshock 4 to play PC games, as it will now be directly working on the controller’s support, rather than a user having to go through a third party program. No date for when the support will be rolled out was announced.

According to Bellinghausen, similar support is coming to other controllers in the future, though the company isn’t ready to announce anything yet. Valve chose to start with the Dualshock 4 because of its internal gyroscope and touchpad, two functions its own Steam Controller has.”
