Chrono Cross Remake Potentially To Be Announced Soon – Rumor

Earlier this year data miners dug into a large bulk of data stored on Nvidia Geforce Now, with a range of interesting and potential announcements suggested by the data they found. Some of these suggestions, such as PlayStation exclusive God of War reboot getting a PC release, were confirmed shortly after but many, such as a Final Fantasy IX remake and a Chrono Chross remastered that were listed had yet to be announced in some compacity.

While we are still waiting on these announcements, new rumors suggest that the Chrono Chross that was listed might actually be a remake as well, and close to being announced. This is because, according to this new information, it is the upcoming PlayStation remake that has also been rumored to release by the end of this year.

On the latest episode of the XboxEra Podcast, co-founder Nick “Shpeshal_Nick” Baker discussed that Nvidia data leak from September, and the unannounced games listed therein, including Chrono Cross which VGC had reported, was the big PlayStation Remake being talked about.

Nick stated on the podcast that “Chrono Cross Remastered, I think, was already on the Nivida leak list, so the game shouldn’t be a surprise – it was on Nvidia’s list. But I was told that that VGC article is about Chrono Cross Remastered.”

What he had also heard was that despite PlayStation being set to announce the title, it would not be exclusive, though which platforms players can expect it on is up in the air. He stated:

What else I was told-because everyone’s working under the assumption that it’s a PlayStation exclusive-I’ve been told that it’s not. The only word that was used was ‘multiplat’. Now, when I hear JRPG and multiplat, I automatically assume PC, PlayStation, Switch, that’s my assumption. That’s not what I was told, that’s just my assumption. All my source said to me was ‘multiplat’. That’s what they said, they told me it wasn’t PlayStation exclusive.

Rumors of this remake were previously fueled by Irish singer Éabha McMahon, who is also known as Ava, who stated in an interview with radio station WLR FM that she had recorded a Gaelic theme for the game. She claimed at the time to have worked with composer Michael McGlynn and his daughter on said theme. Adding more fuel to that fire, Chrono Cross composer Yasunori Mitsuda tweeted a picture of McGlynn and his daughter.

Chrono Cross was the PS1 sequel to the classic SNES JRPG Chrono Trigger. While well-received at the time of release it lived in its predecessor’s shadow, which is widely considered to be one of the best games in the genre, for many years but is often regarded today as on par with the first title.
