Rumor: Call of Duty’s Next Installment Will Return to a World War II Scenario

A  possible leak of the next Call of Duty game was revealed on Thursday by TheFamilyVideoGamers, a YouTuber who says it was emailed to him unsolicited by an anonymous source. The images depict a World War II scenario, above a name: Call of Duty: WWII.

“The poster is then followed by a series of four steelbook concepts showing what appear to be scenes from a beach landing, possibly D-Day. The steelbooks all have “Call of Duty: WWII” printed along their spines. A screengrab of one is above; the rest may be seen in the video.

Call of Duty typically launches in November and Activision typically reveals its name and the first details about the game in late April or early May. Sledgehammer Games is developing this year’s game; the last one it made was 2014’s Advanced Warfare.

Back in early February, Activision told investors that the next entry in the series “will take Call of Duty back to its roots,” noting that Infinite Warfare “underperformed,” and that its futuristic setting “just didn’t resonate.” The series has been set in the future since 2012’s Black Ops 2. Four of the first five games in the series were set in World War II, the last being 2008’s World at War.”
