Battlefield 2042 Will Not Have Voice Chat At Launch

Battlefield 2042 is set to fully launch in a week, however, it turns out that it will not ship with the built-in chat function which is a usual staple when it comes to first-person shooter titles. Series developer Dice told Polygon that the feature will not be available till some point after launch.

Unfortunately, no reason was given for this decision though it might be related to the delay that the game experienced when it was moved out of its initial release window. Whatever the reason that this choice was made this decision will surely be felt in the game across its multiple multiplayer modes, including its 128 player battles that have been a major selling point for the PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X, and PC versions of the game.

This will only affect the in-game chat, leaving party chat and discord as viable alternatives so you can still chat with your friends. If you are anti-social, such as myself, this was probably the way you were going to go anyway. Since the game features big groups and objective-based gameplay, the lack of this usually expected feature will hinder the full experience.

A way to communicate with other players will still exist in the ping system in which you can mark objectives or items for others. While I have not played the game personally, according to Polygon this system is a cumbersome affair. The system apparently has multiple menus that players might need to navigate in order to find the correct ping action for a certain situation. With plenty of action occurring around the player, this might make a pinging problematic in a heated match.

Battlefield 2042 will be arriving for everybody (Gold and Ultimate edition players already access) on November 19th for the PlayStation 5, PlayStation 4, Windows PC, Xbox Series X, and Xbox One.
