Age of Empires IV Gameplay Trailer Revealed at X019

After two years of silence, Xbox Game Studios revealed a new gameplay trailer for Age of Empires IV at X019.

The trailer displayed some hefty siege battles and returns fans of the franchise to the Medieval era. In addition, the studio revealed two of the civilizations that will be featured in the upcoming return to the epic real-time strategy saga: The English and the Mongols.

From what the trailer showcased, the game will feature a slightly more realistic physics system, as when a wall is destroyed, it actually crumbles as opposed to simply smashing into dust and appearing as a pile of rubble. Granted, technology has come a long way since Age of Empires II and even Age of Empires III, but the enhanced graphics and animations were a nice touch nonetheless.

Moreover, Xbox Game Studios announced the name of a brand-new developer that will be handling all of Age of Empires. This new studio is called World’s Edge.

Along with the Age of Empires IV trailer, X019 set the stage for the official launch of Age of Empires II: Definitive Edition, which will feature high-definition, new effects, a new civilization associated with a new expansion called ‘The Last Khans.’

Age of Empires II: Definitive Edition officially released on November 14, 2019 and is available on Steam and the Microsoft Store.

A franchise spanning more than twenty years, Age of Empires first released on October 26, 1997. The game was initially released by Ensemble Studios. The sequel, Age of Empires II, released on September 30, 1999. The third installment launched on October 18, 2005.

The reveal and future release of Age of Empires IV marks a fourteen-year gap since a numbered addition to the franchise launched.
