Resistance 4 “Would Be up to Sony,” Says Insomniac Games

Insomniac Games confirmed today that it has no plans to develop any Resistance title in the future. In an interview with Finder, Insomniac Games Community Director James Stevenson said that Resistance 4 “feels like a longshot.” However, he adds that he has learned through experience that anything is possible in this current age.  Like in his own words: “Never say never.”

On the subject of whether another developer could take the reins on the franchise, he stated that other developers have actually developed Resistance games in the past. These include Bend Studio’s Resistance: Retribution in 2009 and nStigate Games’ Resistance: Burning Skies in 2012.

Fans should still wait for a new Resistance game, since Stevenson clarified that Sony owns the IP and the entire Resistance universe. That means even if Insomniac Games refused or couldn’t develop Resistance 4, Sony could just find another first-party or third-party developer for the project. It “would be up to Sony”, confirms Stevenson, and that’s a good thing since the franchise could be revived any time at the company’s discretion.

Even without going back to the Resistance franchise, Insomniac Games has more than enough on their hands right now with the upcoming release of Marvel’s Spider-Man. The developer recently announced that the upcoming PS4 exclusive has gone gold, which means that it’s ready to be played. Despite that, gamers will still have to wait another month before it releases on September 7, 2018. Insomniac’s unique take on Spider-Man will even make its way into comic book canon merely several weeks after the game’s launch.
