For years, Xbox and @discord have worked together to make it easier for players to connect, chat, and play across devices. According to a recent report from IGN, Microsoft Gaming may be working on a new, cheaper subscription tier for Xbox Game Pass. The report suggests that Microsoft Gaming CEO Asha Sharma is considering a tier that includes only first-party titles. This follows a recent report in which Sharma expressed concerns that Game Pass is currently “too expensive for players.”
“Game Pass is central to gaming value on Xbox. It’s also clear that the current model isn’t the final one. Short term, Game Pass has become too expensive for players, so we need a better value equation. Long term, we will evolve Game Pass into a more flexible system, which will take time to test and learn around,” the memo reads. Sharma is also reportedly planning to “go deeper” with employees next week regarding current plans for the service.
Additionally, a new Game Pass tier was recently spotted by data miner Redphx on Twitter, seemingly focused on first-party Xbox titles. Referred to as “Triton” in project files, the tier appears to be a lower-priced option featuring games from Xbox Game Studios. Titles associated with this tier include DOOM Eternal, Dishonored 2, Fable Anniversary, Fallout 4, Fallout 76, Gears 5, Halo 5, Halo Wars 2, Hellblade, and The Elder Scrolls Online, among others. However, it is important to note that this tier has not been officially confirmed by Microsoft.
