In a recent earnings call reported by Variety, JB Perrette, CEO and President of Global Streaming and Games at Warner Bros. Discovery, said the company plans to return to some of its “biggest franchises” in the coming years. “2025 was a year of reset,” Perrette said, adding that the gaming division had been “distracted going after too many IPs with too broad a set of studios.” He continued, “The real fruits will start coming in ’27-’28 when we return to some of our biggest franchises.” The company previously announced last year that it would refocus on its major IP.
The division has since been restructured into four groups centered on Harry Potter, Game of Thrones, Mortal Kombat, and DC. Studio heads have been promoted to vice president roles within each division. Warner Bros. Games Montréal studio head Yves Lachance will lead the Harry Potter and Game of Thrones franchises, while NetherRealm Studios head Shaun Himmerick will oversee DC and Mortal Kombat. Meanwhile, LEGO Batman: Legacy of the Dark Knight is set to launch on May 29, 2026, for PlayStation 5, Xbox Series, and PC via Steam and the Epic Games Store. A Nintendo Switch 2 version will follow at a later date.
