Vampyr Released for Nintendo Switch with Official Launch Trailer

Vampyr, an action-RPG with a heavy focus on narrative, released for Nintendo Switch today, October 29, 2019.

The release comes with an official launch trailer that can be found here.

Vampyr originally released on June 5, 2018 for PC, PlayStation 4, and Xbox One. Developed by DONTNOT Entertainment and published by Focus Home Interactive, the single-player action-RPG follows Jonathan Reid, a doctor who is turned into a vampire and must choose between adhering to the Hippocratic Oath and succumbing to his desire to quench his vampiric bloodthirst.

Players, naturally, make these choices for the doctor, and their choices are reflected in the game world and help determine which of the four endings they receive. Gamers can also pick and choose most of the fights in which they engage. However, some boss battles cannot be avoided.

However, players must allow Reid to feast on the living in order to increase his strength and level up the character. Feeding on the innocent is not obligatory, but it could be a quicker path to enhancing the doctor’s vampiric abilities.

The game is set in London during the Spanish Flu epidemic in a semi-open world environment with four districts available for players to explore. Gamers can also cause destruction in those districts if they choose certain actions throughout their gameplay.

Vampyr received mixed reviews, with most critics praising the primary game mechanics, setting, character development, and voice acting, but criticizing the combat, narrative, technical problems, portions of the choice-based system, and animations.

In August 2018, Fox 21 Television Studios optioned Vampyr as a series. No release date for the pilot episode has been announced.
