Ubisoft Paris Employees Asked To “Stop Working” When The CEO Appears

As reported by Le Figaro, French unions Solidaires Informatique, STVJV, and CFE CGC have urged Ubisoft Paris employees to stop working if CEO Yves Guillemot appears at the office. The call was issued via a pamphlet in response to Ubisoft’s recent offer of a “voluntary mutual termination agreement,” which would effectively result in the layoff of 200 employees in Paris. “It is time to make our boss understand that he is not welcome on our premises as long as he continues to mistreat his employees,” reads the pamphlet. “We call on the employees of Ubisoft Paris to stop working if Yves Guillemot steps foot in our offices. Leave your desks, and gather in front of the building.”

Solidaires Informatique previously called for a half-day strike on January 22. “This is an initial answer to the absurdity of management’s decisions,” the union said in a post announcing the action. “Other strikes are currently being discussed. It is out of the question to let a boss run wild and destroy our working conditions. Perhaps we need to remind [Ubisoft CEO Yves Guillemot] that it is his employees who make the games.”

According to a recent report from Radio-Canada, former Assassin’s Creed boss Marc-Alexis Côté filed a lawsuit against Ubisoft seeking CAD $1.3 million, or approximately $937,000. The report claims the lawsuit stems from what Côté describes as an “unacceptable dismissal,” which he alleges amounted to a “disguised dismissal.”
