Supermassive Reveals New Horror Title: The Quarry

Supermassive Games has announced it’s newest teen slasher game, The Quarry, will be launching on June 10th. The horror title’s story begins with a group of teens who unexpectedly will need to spend an extra night at their lodge in Hackett’s Quarry Summer Camp. During the night, the group notices some strange happenings in the woods around the camp:

Players will take control of one of nine different characters. As with Until Dawn, anyone can live, and anyone can die. Supermassive promises ground-breaking interactive storytelling with unpredictable events, flirting and fear as players make and break relationships through intense player decisions. According to Director Will Byles, each character will have ten to twelve possible deaths. The Quarry is “like a circular story and each one of those characters is a spoke heading towards the middle.” This means that if a spoke is broken, it doesn’t affect the rest of the story.

You can expect on average ten hours of gameplay with each playthrough, with early deaths resulting in about seven hours. The game is made to be very replayable though with all the different characters and endings, and players are given a collectible card depicting the end of their character at the end of their playthrough. With 187 different cards to collect, you can spend a lot of time exploring every aspect of the branching story.

The Quarry can be played in co-op locally or online. Locally, each player will be able to choose one counselor to play, while online play will allow other users to watch the playthrough and vote on each decision. The game also features several accessibility options that can be toggled on or off, such as quick time events, button mashes, aiming and shooting. These can even be toggled on or off separately for each character in co-op. Turning everything off can result in an almost movie-like experience, with very little interaction required on the part of the player.

Like Until Dawn, The Quarry blends a camp teen slasher with a creature feature, and draws inspiration from a wide range of horror films including Friday the 13th, The Thing, and Evil Dead. Also like Until Dawn, this new title features a star-studded cast including Scream’s David Arquette, Modern Family’s Ariel Winter, Detective Pikachu’s Justice Smith, The Social Network’s Brenda Song, Aliens’ Lance Henriksen, and A Nightmare on Elm Street’s Lin Shaye.
