According to Insider Gaming, development on Star Wars Eclipse, which was first announced at The Game Awards in 2021, has been “very slow going.” The report cites an anonymous source who claims the team has made “very little progress over months.” “The game, at this stage, is still looking to be years off from completion,” one source said back in December. The source also claimed that there had been discussions about expanding the development team, but NetEase was unwilling to invest in that. Instead, both NetEase and Quantic Dream are relying on Spellcasters Chronicles, which entered Early Access in February, to provide revenue for the Star Wars title.
“At this stage, the long-term outlook is less driven by creative capabilities and more by financial viability,” the source added. “Should Spellcasters fail commercially, NetEase is expected to reevaluate its commitment to the studio and could opt to discontinue further investment.”
In a blog post on the official Quantic Dream website from October last year, the studio confirmed that development on Star Wars: Eclipse is still ongoing. “Of course, development of Star Wars: Eclipse continues, and we are eager to share more with you in the future,” the post reads. A specific release window or even an update on development progress is currently unknown.
