Shinji Mikami, known for his work as a director of several games in the Resident Evil series at Capcom and his work in Tango Gameworks, before leaving the latter in 2023, is seemingly working on a new game at a new studio. In an interview with Japanese job recruitment website Nidan Jump, former Tango Gameworks producer Masato Kimura spoke about working with Mikami. The conversation hints that Mikami is collaborating with Kimura to develop a new title at Kimura’s studio, Unbound. Kimura also added that the studio is committed to working on Mikami’s projects, which involve both new and veteran developers. Additionally, according to job listings, Unbound is currently developing a “high-end” original IP powered by Unreal Engine 5 for PS5, Xbox, and PC. The studio also aims to work on smaller-scale titles concurrently in the future.
In an interview on the company website, Kimura was asked what he could share about Unbound’s upcoming first title. “I can’t give away any details yet, but it’s a AAA title for high-end consumers,” he said. “However, to be honest, it would be difficult to do the same kind of work in Japan as overseas AAA titles, which require hundreds of billions of yen and hundreds of people working for five to seven years to create.
“So, we’re aiming for AAA quality and AA content, which is why we’re creating a title that offers a rich gaming experience and allows you to be completely immersed in its world.”
