In its recent earnings report, SEGA announced that its previously planned Super Game project has been canceled, though a specific reason was not provided. The initiative was first announced in 2021, when the publisher revealed that several new games based on dormant franchises were in development as part of the project. In 2022, executive vice president Shuji Utsumi stated that the Super Game initiative would go “beyond the framework of conventional games.”
However, the company continues its efforts to revive classic franchises. In 2023, SEGA announced that it was developing new entries in series such as Jet Set Radio, Crazy Taxi, Shinobi, Streets of Rage, and Golden Axe. In the same year, the company confirmed that its new Jet Set Radio title will be open-world. Since then, the company has released a new Shinobi installment, Shinobi: Art of Vengeance.
Additionally, alongside the cancellation, SEGA stated that several titles had been internally delayed and also shared a list of games currently in its development pipeline.
