The long, and I mean LONG, awaited sequel to the S.T.A.L.K.E.R. series finally has a release date that looks permanent this time. That being said gamers who have waited for this title should take that with a grain of salt as this game has been delayed a lot over the years. This time, however, S.T.A.L.K.E.R. 2: Heart of Chernobyl comes with a beautiful-looking trailer.
First being announced in 2010, its announcement followed the release of the last game thus far S.T.A.L.K.E.R: Call of Pripyat. Originally it aimed for a release in 2012 but several, issues and development setbacks have pushed the game back to this point.
The title of the game, S.T.A.L.K.E.R, stands for Scavengers, Trespassers, Adventurers, Loners, Killers, Explorers and Robbers and is based on the book and film of the same name. As the subtitle might make clear, the game series takes place within the Chernobyl Exclusion Zone. The trailer showcases several people that travel through it swapping stories around a campfire.
In this alternate reality, experiments were held within the Exclusion zone lead ultimately to a second disaster in the zone. This led to hazardous anomalies that defy logic and affect objects that enter them, appearing through the area.
While several military groups have attempted to barricade the area, stalkers regularly enter the area with their own goals. You as the protagonist will play one such person with your own goals. Your actions can benefit or hurt several groups around the area.
Last year at the Xbox Games Showcase it was confirmed that the title would be exclusive on the console to Xbox Series X. It will not be coming to Xbox One as it is aiming to both hit 4k and Ray tracing. It was stated that the release date for the game will be April 28, 2022.
