Possible Metroid Trilogy Switch Port Next Month – Rumor

Recent rumors from VG247 have indicated that the Metroid Prime trilogy will be getting a Switch port in the month of June. This rumor is backed by a listing from Swedish retailer Inet, listing the game with a June 19 release date.

Furthermore, Best Buy has also listed the trilogy port on their staff-only database. Additionally, Nintendo insider “king zell” implied last year that a Metroid trilogy port would be coming to the Switch on Nintendo Direct.

While Nintendo is still developing  Metroid Prime 4 for an alleged October release, a Metroid trilogy port would not be unrealistic for them. After Nintendo handed off the development of Metroid Prime 4 to Retro Studios;  the Nintendo software team can focus on making a port for the original trilogy.

Included in this bundle would be Metroid Prime, Metroid Prime 2: Echoes, and Metroid Prime 3: Corruption. All originally developed by Retro Studios.

Of course, employees are the ones filling out the databases. Employees can base their listings on guesswork to fill out empty slots. It’s important to take retailer leaks with a grain of salt.

However, previous leaks for Just Cause 4, Rage 2, and Gears of War 5 have all come from retailers. Developers can provide retailers with briefings before the game’s release. Best Buy leaks were the source for a Persona 5 port that turned out to be Persona 5 Scramble instead.

The original console the trilogy was released on was the GameCube, followed by a remastered edition for the Wii. The most recent port being the Wii U. A Switch port would ensure that both old and new fans of Metroid can enjoy the original series on the Switch. A console with greater success compared to the Wii U, which was discontinued four years ago.
