Phoenix Point—the spiritual successor to the X-COM series from the original creator of X-COM, Julian Gollop—is showing inaccurate installation availability prior to its official release on the Epic Games Store.
The game’s developer, Snapshot Games, released a launch trailer a few days prior to the title’s release in an effort to promote the impending launch.
However, despite the game appearing to be available for download, it will not be available until 11:00AM PDT/7:00PM GMT. Regardless, some players have reported issues downloading the game from the Epic Games Store, receiving an error code when they attempt to install Phoenix Point. The most reported error code so far has been MD-0011, which appears to be a generic connection error code that could reflect either a player’s poor (or nonexistent) Internet connection or an issue with the Epic Games Store servers. However, the real culprit is simply that the game is unavailable.
Phoenix Point is a turn-based strategy game that draws influence and inspiration from the X-COM franchise. The game is being developed by Bulgarian-based Snapshot Games and is available on macOS and Windows PC, with ports for PlayStation 4 and Xbox One scheduled to arrive in 2020.
The game is set in the year 2047 during an alien invasion of Earth. Snapshot Games drew inspiration from Lovecraftian horrors that are set on exterminating humanity. Players are tasked with the incredible objective of saving humanity. Moreover, the aliens will adapt to the technology and tactics players use over time, forcing gamers to employ new strategies, weapons, and other items on an everchanging warfront to preserve what is left of humanity.
Snapshot Games was founded in 2013 by Julian Gollop and David Kaye. The company is based in Sofia, Bulgaria, and developed and released Chaos Reborn as its debut title in 2015.
