Phil Spencer’s Retirement Was Allegedly “Not Planned”

According to Kinda Funny Games’ Greg Miller, who claims to have recently been “passed something,” former Microsoft Gaming CEO Phil Spencer’s retirement was allegedly not planned. “If you trust us, what I’m saying is this was not planned,” Miller said. The sudden announcement of Spencer’s retirement, along with the resignation of Sarah Bond, who was widely believed to be his successor, has shocked many fans. Many believe there may be more to the announcement behind the scenes. However, for now, these are just rumors especially as additional details were not provided.

Microsoft announced that Microsoft Gaming CEO Phil Spencer will retire on February 23, and that Xbox President and Chief Operating Officer Sarah Bond has resigned. Spencer will be replaced by the current president of Microsoft’s CoreAI product as Microsoft Gaming CEO. Current Xbox Game Studios head Matt Booty will be promoted to executive vice president and chief content officer. “Last fall, I shared with Satya that I was thinking about stepping back and starting the next chapter of my life,” Spencer said in his official departure memo. “From that moment, we aligned on approaching this transition with intention, ensuring stability, and strengthening the foundation we’ve built.”
