Overwatch 2 to be Announced in 2019

On June 6, Kotaku reported that Blizzard cancelled an unannounced StarCraft FPS game and its in the works to switch the development team onto two other project. These projects are supposedly a new Overwatch game and Diablo 4. Supposedly both of these games will be announced later this year during BlizzCon 2019 as “marquee” announcements for the event. Well news about Diablo 4 would make sense, Overwatch 2 seems to be something we’ve never heard of but Kotaku got a few details from Blizzard Employees.

It’s been reported that the Overwatch 2 project will have a large PVE element that has been said to be similar to Left 4 Dead. If this is true, then the Overwatch PVE events would coincide with this. Additionally this almost sounds strange to have an Overwatch 2 as the current Overwatch is still giving out regular updates and eSports leagues. Of course a PVE element for the PVP-focused team-based hero shooter would make sense as Blizzard wants to expand their IP.

Blizzard President J. Allen Brack told Game Informer, “We also think that there are a lot of different types of games that can exist within the IP’s that we have. If we thnk about the Overwatch IP for example, we think about the Overwatch IP as being extremely large and all-encompassing. Overwatch, the game people experience today, is just being a very small part of what that IP could be.”

Of course the information given is only allegedly true as Kotaku was told this information through anonymous sources working on the projects. Even with the unofficial information a new Diablo game for the PC would win the fans over and Overwatch 2 technically seems to be very far away, but hopefully Blizzard will address any information regarding both projects hopefully in this year’s BlizzCon.
