Nioh 2 Release Date Revealed In New Trailer

Action-RPG title Nioh 2 has received its official launch date of March 13, 2020, as revealed by a trailer posted on PlayStation EU’s YouTube channel.

The sequel to 2017’s Nioh, the game was announced at the 2018 Sony E3 conference by Team Ninja, the developers of the Dead or Alive and rebooted Ninja Gaiden franchises. As reported by GameInformer back in September, Nioh 2 is a prequel to the original game and is set in the 1500’s. Gamers will play as their own customized character who is part yōkai, a type of supernatural spirit or demon from Japanese mythology. As part of the game, the player’s character will occasionally be drawn into a place not featured in the original, called the Dark Realm—the home of the yōkai, where players will face higher difficulty foes that reward them with greater quality items.

Gaming Instincts has followed Nioh 2 since its original announcement, most recently reporting on the game’s open beta, slated to begin this November. Team Ninja has revealed very few actual details regarding gameplay, though some gameplay footage did surface in early September of this year.

In addition to revealing the launch date for Nioh 2, a post yesterday on the official PlayStation blog revealed the original Nioh will be available for free in November to gamers who subscribe to the PlayStation Plus service, along with psychological horror title Outlast 2. Gamers who have not yet done so may also wish to pick up October’s free PlayStation plus titles, including The Last of Us Remastered and MLB: The Show 19, both of which are available for download until November 4, 2019.
