With the recent news that the upcoming Pokemon Sword and Shield titles only containing a specific amount of Pokemon in the game, many fans are distraught with the idea of not being able to collect all Pokemon in the vibrant universe of the lovable pocket monsters. In the wake of the news many believed that Game Freak was taking the easy way out with the development of Sword/Shield by assuming the 3D models for the Pokemon were being reused from previous titles.
It appears as though these claims are false however, as Game Freak has recently confirmed that they are creating brand-new models for the upcoming Switch release. A Famitsu interview gave light to the subject which allowed the developer to inform fans that due to the higher resolution and longer development time – and with this process only increasing the further we advance in technology – the decision to pull the plug on including all Pokemon in the Pokedex would have come eventually.
There’s also a point about how the Mega Evolution and the new Dynamax Phenomenon would affect the older models of the Pokemon so to include every monster would add a tremendous amount of work to the task at hand.
Pokemon Sword and Shield is set to release exclusively on the Switch on November 15, 2019.
