New Details For Rumored PlayStation Handheld Seemingly Leaks

More details have seemingly been revealed for the heavily rumored upcoming PlayStation handheld console. According to prominent AMD leaker KeplerL2, the handheld will feature AI upscaling attached to the AMD APU the device allegedly comes with. It will also come included with the 16 GB LPDDR5X RAM, which notably doesn’t launch for a few years. Lastly, the device will have 1/3 of the base PlayStation 5 memory bandwidth but with more memory compression and cache. It’s worth noting that while this new information means the console is likely not coming for at least a few years, Sony has yet to confirm or announce a PlayStation handheld device or console. Sony’s remote play handheld device PlayStation Portal launched on November 15, 2023. It costs $199.99.

According to a past Bloomberg report, Sony is currently developing a portable console that plays PlayStation 5 games. While reportedly in early stages, the console aims to compete with Nintendo in the portable gaming market along with Microsoft. The report claims that the PlayStation Portal exceeded expectations and was initially intended to be a standalone device and not a remote play device. Lastly, the anonymous Sony employees cited in the report claimed that the console is years away from release.
