MindsEye CEO Claims The Game Was Affected By a €1 Million Smear Campaign

According to a recent Insider Gaming report, during an internal meeting with Build a Rocket Boy, MindsEye co-CEO Mark Gerhard claimed that he “caught the guys” who sabotaged MindsEye’s release in an alleged campaign costing more than one million euros. The report states that Gerhard opened the video call, which took place in late January, by saying he “caught the guys who’ve been sabotaging MindsEye.” He added that it was an American company, but “probably not the company you’re thinking of.”

Gerhard claimed the “very American company” spent more than one million euros in 2025 through a UK-based company called ‘Ritual Network’ to conduct a smear campaign and sabotage the game. He alleged that the campaign involved several influencers, three journalists, and even Build a Rocket Boy employees. He also claimed that these individuals “will all be served in person, criminal complaints, shortly,” and that the charges would include “espionage, sabotage, and criminal interference.” Gerhard further stated that the alleged individuals would be put into the game’s upcoming spy mission. “We will use these people, these names and these facts for our own fun, ” Gerhard said. “We’re gonna put some of these names into our upcoming spy mission.”

In a comment provided to Insider Gaming, Ritual Network responded to Gerhard’s allegations:

“Ritual Network is a creator support platform and is not involved in the matter you referenced. We are not aware of any legitimate legal action involving Ritual Network and have not been provided with any evidence supporting these claims. Any suggestion that Ritual Network is connected to these allegations is incorrect.”

A spokesperson for Build a Rocket Boy provided the following statement: “We don’t comment on leaked internal communications. Sadly, we do have evidence that there has been a coordinated campaign to purposefully and maliciously damage Build A Rocket Boy’s reputation and undermine confidence in MindsEye. We are working with our legal team and taking steps to address this.”

MindsEye launched on June 10, 2025. According to past analysis at Ampere Analysis via The Game Business, MindsEye sales have been negatively impacted by its negative critical and player reception. According to the company the game was “just shy” of 250,000 players with 150,000 being on PlayStation 5 while only 35,000 players are on Steam close to its launch.
