Microsoft is Reportedly Laying Off More Employees From Xbox Division

According to a recent report from Bloomberg’s Jason Schreier, Microsoft plans to start a new round of layoffs across the Xbox division. According to the report, which cites anonymous people familiar with the plans, the layoffs are part of a “company-wide reorganization” effort. When asked, the company declined to comment. Layoffs at Microsoft are not uncommon as the company saw 6000  employees laid off back in May.

“We continue to implement organizational changes necessary to best position the company for success in a dynamic marketplace,” said a Microsoft spokesperson in a past statement.

Prior to this, Xbox also announced that 650 employees were laid off back in September 2024. “For the past year, our goal has been to minimize disruption while welcoming new teams and enabling them to do their best work,” wrote Phil Spencer in the email. “As part of aligning our post-acquisition team structure and managing our business, we have made the decision to eliminate approximately 650 roles across Microsoft Gaming—mostly corporate and supporting functions—to organize our business for long term success.” “With these changes, our corporate and supporting teams and resources are aligned for sustainable future growth, and can better support our studio teams and business units with programs and resources that can scale to meet their needs.”
