Microsoft and Sony Sign “Binding Agreement” to Keep Call of Duty Series on PlayStation

Microsoft Gaming CEO Phil Spencer has announced that Microsoft and Sony Interactive Entertainment have “signed a binding agreement to keep Call of Duty on PlayStation following the acquisition of Activision Blizzard,” and that the company will “remain focused on ensuring that Call of Duty remains available on more platforms and for more consumers than ever before.” Microsoft previously offered Microsoft and Nintendo a 10-year deal to keep the high selling series on PlayStation and Nintendo platforms, and Sony ‘s refusal of the deal was one of the many hurdles preventing the acquisition’s approval. Microsoft recently won its court case against the FTC over its proposed acquisition allowing it to proceed in the US.

Spencer’s full statement regarding the announcement:

“We have signed a binding agreement to keep Call of Duty on PlayStation following the acquisition of Activision Blizzard. We look forward to a future where players globally have more choice to play their favorite games.”

Microsoft vice chair and president Brad Smith:

“From day one of this acquisition, we’ve been committed to addressing the concerns of regulators, platform and game developers, and consumers. Even after we cross the finish line for this deal’s approval, we will remain focused on ensuring that Call of Duty remains available on more platforms and for more consumers than ever before.”
