Breath of the Wild Sequel Directed by Fujibayashi

Fujibayashi Returns For Breath of the Wild Sequel; Will “Incorporate New Gameplay and New Story”

Earlier this week during Nintendo’s time to shine at the annual E3 event, the company’s E3 Direct showcase concluded with a surprise reveal for the existence of a sequel to 2017’s Legend of Zelda Breath of the Wild. Regarded as one of the best games in the current gen – as well as one of the must-have titles for the Switch – more Zelda titles was expected for the popular franchise, but a direct sequel and an announcement so soon is a bit of a shocker.

Speaking with Game Informer at E3, producer and Legend of Zelda manager Eiji Aonuma unveiled a few subtle details regarding the sequel. Aonuma confirmed that the director for Breath of the Wild – Hidemaro Fujibayashi – will reprise his role for the upcoming sequel, he “really like(s) the idea of having DLC or anything coming after the main game,” and looks forward to adding more experience within the open-world version of Hyrule fans explored in the Breath of the Wild.

“One of the reasons we wanted to create a continuation was because I wanted to revisit that Hyrule again and use that world again, while incorporating new gameplay and new story(…)We’re working together really hard on this game.” – Eiji Aonuma

As for now, there’s no other details on the game other than the fact it’s a direct sequel to Breath of the Wild. In less than two minutes, this untitled sequel has easily become one of the most anticipated titles for the future of the Switch line up.
