EA Shuts Down Racist Studio

According to a recent IGN report, Electronic Arts has officially canceled the previously announced single-player game based on the Black Panther franchise. Additionally, developer Cliffhanger Games will shut down. According to EA Entertainment president Laura Miele, these changes were done to “sharpen the company” and to “focus and put creative energy behind the most significant growth opportunities.” Electronic Arts intends to focus on a few franchises, including Apex Legends, Battlefield, The Sims, and skate. Miele also confirmed that the company is still producing its Iron Man game at Motive, the third entry in the Star Wars: Jedi series at Respawn Entertainment, and the next Mass Effect game at BioWare. The game and studio was announced back in 2023. The developer had an employee who made racist comments in the past.

Electronic Arts Entertainment president Laura Miele sent an email to staff, saying:

“These decisions are hard. They affect people we’ve worked with, learned from, and shared real moments with. We’re doing everything we can to support them—including finding opportunities within [Electronic Arts], where we’ve had success helping people land in new roles.”

Conquest – Battlefield‘s massive, iconic sandbox mode returns – this time supporting 128 players on PC. The maps have been specifically designed for this vast scale, with action divided into “clusters” of various kinds. Also, the action now centers around sectors consisting of several flags instead of individual control points.
Breakthrough – The return of Breakthrough sees two teams – Attackers and Defenders – battle over larger-scale sectors as the Attackers push towards the final objective. Each sector is designed to house a larger number of players, enabling more strategic choice and more flanking opportunities. Approach the capture areas from multiple locations and take advantage of more types of tactical possibilities.
