Elden Ring Biggest Release Since Call of Duty

It is no secret at this point that Elden Ring is a massive hit. From the massive amount of perfect score reviews to setting records on Steam, From Software’s latest epic fantasy roleplaying game is by far their most successful. Millions worldwide have purchased the game that our review calls “potentially the game of the generation.” And now, we have some sales figures to see just how big the release of Elden Ring is.

In a report on GI.biz, Elden Ring is the biggest UK game launched since Call of Duty: Vanguard last year, and the biggest release besides the FIFA and Call of Duty franchises since Red Dead Redemption 2. Its first week sales are bigger than Assassin’s Creed Valhalla and Cyberpunk 2077, and is two and a half times that of Horizon: Forbidden West which released the week before.

What may be surprising is just how much of the sales were digital. According to the report, 68% of Elden Ring’s sales were downloaded:

According to GSD’s figures, digital downloads accounted for over 68% of Elden Ring’s sales. Xbox and PC were the biggest digital platforms. Almost 85% of Elden Ring sales on Xbox were downloaded, and on PC it was 73%. For PS5 and PS4, the sales were just over 50% digital.

An interesting note on those numbers is it seems the vast majority of Xbox users preferred to download the game as opposed to those who bought it on Playstation 5. Also interesting was that the spread of physical and digital sales across the three major platforms seemed pretty even:

According to GSD’s digital and physical numbers, 32% of sales were on PlayStation 5, 30% on PC, 29% on Xbox and 9% on PS4.

Elden Ring is currently out for PC, Xbox and Playstation and is definitely not a game to be missed.
