Devil May Cry 5: Special Edition Coming to Next-Generation Consoles

Devil May Cry 5: Special Edition Coming to Next-Generation Consoles

Capcom announced at the PlayStation 5 showcase that Devil May Cry 5: Special Edition will be a digital launch title for the next generation of consoles, with the physical copy coming at a later date.

The trailer, released alongside the announcement, reveals Vergil will be a playable character, in true Devil May Cry 3: Special Edition fashion. Equipped with a katana, Vergil comes with a whole new set of moves and abilities for the player to try out on unsuspecting demons. Vergil also comes with a new story to play through for players looking for another excuse to jump back into Devil May Cry 5’s beautiful combat.

The trailer showed off the ray tracing and boost to graphical effects that were made possible by the next generation hardware. The special edition will also come with Turbo Mode and Legendary Dark Knight Mode, another special edition hallmark for the series.

Capcom’s most recent entry to the 19 year series was met with critical acclaim, being hailed as the best in the series. With the reboot a few years earlier not being well-received by fans, Devil May Cry 5 won back the hearts of the series’ most devout edge-lords.

The DMC series has never taken itself too seriously, with this newest entry being no different. Whether it be a man with a cane summoning a panther and a raven from the ether, Nero riding his own rocket arm like a skateboard, or the occasional Michael Jackson inspired dance number, Devil May Cry 5 doesn’t shy away from being ridiculous; it wears it on its sleeve.

Devil May Cry 5: Special Edition will be released for next-generation consoles for $39.99 USD.
