505 Games, the publisher behind Hideo Kojima’s Death Stranding, has announced that Death Stranding will launch simultaneously on the Epic Games Store and Steam in summer 2020. PC pre-orders for the game are now available, with a base price of 54.99 EUR (USD$59.99).
The launch trailer for Death Stranding released on October 30, 2018, and the game itself launched today, November 8, 2019, and so far, has received positive reactions from fans.
Death Stranding is one of the most anticipated projects of the decade and was officially announced for the first time at E3 2016 after Hideo Kojima and Kojima Productions departed Konami in 2015. The game entered full development in 2017 when Kojima Productions entered a partnership with Sony Interactive Entertainment, making the game a PlayStation 4 console exclusive until it releases for PC in 2020.
The game stars Norman Reedus (The Walking Dead) as Sam Bridges, and features Mads Mikkelsen (Rogue One: A Star Wars Story) and Léa Seydoux (Spectre). In addition, Academy Award winning director Guillermo del Toro (The Shape of Water) and comedian and television host Conan O’brien (TBS’ Conan) make appearances. Furthermore, the creator of The Game Awards, Geoff Keighley, lends his voice to Death Stranding.
Kojima Productions is helmed by “renowned game creator Hideo Kojima. The studio was established in December 2015 under the banner of ‘From Sapiens to Ludens,’ which signifies an evolution from ‘human beings’ to ‘beings who play.’”
505 Games is a subsidiary of the Italian entertainment company Digital Bros. and has published games such as Control, PAYDAY 2, No Man’s Sky, Hellblade: Senua’s Sacrifice, Warhammer: Vermintide 2, and more. The publisher has offices in California, United Kingdom, France, Germany, Italy, Spain, China, and Japan.
