Cyberpunk 2077 First Free DLC Is Cosmetic

Developer CD Projekt Red has revealed upcoming plans for their first batch of DLC being added to Cyberpunk 2077. This news comings shortly after they had declared their game was finally in a passable state in terms of playability and that they would begin to add content to the game, as well as continue to patch bugs.

The content coming to the game may not be as substantial as some players were hoping for, given the tumultuous road to get to this point. During a Twitch Livestream, several members on CD Projekt Red broke down a large number of fixes coming to the game with Patch 1.3. Outside of this they also discussed new additions coming to the game. This includes 2 cosmetic jackets, one car, and an alternative outfit for Johnny Silverhands. And yet still cosmetic equip so chasing the highest gear doesn’t make me look like a crazy person.

All four items can be accessed through the additional content tab on the main menu. Players will be able to nab both jackets from V’s apartment once completing ‘The Ride’ mission. Purchasing the vehicle, named Archer Quartz “Bandit”, will have the ability to do so after completing the ‘Ghost Town’ mission.

CDPR senior level designer Miles Toast stated that there is a reason this content is small. Patch 1.3 will be the largest to date and these items are meant to act as sort of a sweetener to incentive players to return after. At least we are finally seeing more content enter the game, even if it is small. Miles stated during the stream:

We’re put a lot of effort into this one, so consider the DLCs that we have now as sort of goodies, sort of cherries on top. The reality of course, and we’ve talked about this in the past, is that we differentiate a bit between different kinds of extra content, between DLCs, additional items of which we will have plenty coming down the road, and of course the giant expansion passes which we will have something to say about later.

This matches how the company handled their previous game The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt which saw 16 free content drops before they released their two major Expansions release in 2015 and 2016 respectively. Back in 2020 CDPR had confirmed that Cyberpunk 2077 would follow a similar strategy.

This content and the patches are both live now in the game. Patch 1.3 will include a lot of fixes with two noticeable being a more zoomed out mini-map so players can see more within it, as well as a decrease in price for the in-game item to reset perks which will make it easier to reset your perks and try out new ones in one playthrough.
