The highly anticipated sequel to The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild has been delayed. Breath of the Wild 2 was originally slated to be released in 2022, though no specific time was given. Series producer Eiji Aonuma announced the delay and apologized in a video released by Nintendo:
The new release window for the game will be Spring 2023. No specific reason was given for the delay, but delays are common with the Zelda franchise, so this is hardly surprising. After apologizing for the delay, Aonuma went on to describe a bit about the game and what we can expect from it when it finally releases:
“As previously announced, the adventure in this sequel will take place not just on the ground as in the previous game, but also in the skies above. However the expanded world goes beyond that, and there will be an even wider variety of features you can enjoy, including new encounters and new gameplay elements.”
As he talked, the footage in the background was mostly what we had seen before, but Nintendo slipped one little extra piece of unseen footage into the mix to surprise us. The footage showed a close-up of the new tattooed Link holding the Master Sword, only it seemed to have been broken or corrupted somehow.
As the sequel to one of the highest rated games of all time, so there is a lot of pressure to make sure that Breath of the Wild 2 lives up to its predecessor’s name. Lots of games have also been released recently in a very buggy, unfinished state. Therefore, it makes sense that Nintendo would want to make sure they take their time to make sure the game is as good as possible.
