Orion Streaming Tech

Bethesda Announces Streaming Tech ‘Orion’

During Bethesda’s E3 conference Id Software CTO Robert Duffy and Bethesda director of publishing James Altman introduced a new piece of tech catering to streaming services. Orion will allow faster streaming and allow players to play streaming titles up to 20% faster than standard streaming services.

The new streaming tech isn’t a new service per se, but rather additional tech to optimize your experience for games on certain streaming services themselves.

“This can be put into any game engine, it can be used with any streaming platform to provide a better experience for any consumer playing that game on that platform and to deliver it at a lower cost for whoever’s serving the data.” – James Altman

The onstage demonstration for the Orion tech showcased the tech allowing a players to stream Doom 2016 on their smart device with a controller hook connected at 60 FPS in 4K. While there’s no particular release set in place for Orion, there will be a test for the tech later this year. You can register for the test by signing up for the Doom Slayers Club.
