According to a new Windows Central report by Jez Corden, a third-person shooter StarCraft title will “likely” be revealed at BlizzCon 2026, set to take place this September. “The headline for BlizzCon 2026 is most likely going to be StarCraft,” Corden wrote. “It was previously reported that StarCraft is getting the third-person shooter treatment, and I confirmed these rumors true via my own sources a while back.” Rumors of a third-person StarCraft game have circulated since 2024. Bloomberg journalist Jason Schreier also referenced the project in his book Play Nice: The Rise, Fall, and Future Of Blizzard Entertainment, stating that former Far Cry head Dan Hay was leading the development team. Additional details about the title remain unknown.
In a 2023 interview with Bloomberg, Blizzard president Mike Ybarra teased plans for the future of the StarCraft series. Ybarra claimed that the series isn’t necessarily dead and that the publisher is looking for the right team for the job, which also means that the next major title may not necessarily be an RTS game. “It’s not me saying, ‘Go make a StarCraft game,” said Ybarra, “I need to have someone who has the vision and passion that comes with the idea, and I’ll bet on that team.” Additionally, during the opening ceremony for BlizzCon 2023, Phil Spencer went on stage to comment on the series stating that “StarCraft spawned the foundation of what esports would eventually become, and with StarCraft 2, it was a major catalyst for the evolution of games as live entertainment.”
